University of Groningen (RUG)

The Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG), founded in 1614, is one of the Netherlands' oldest universities.[3] Wilmake completed his Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence there between approximately 2012 and 2016. In 2025, he returned in a supervisory capacity, overseeing four software engineering students working on uithub-related tooling.[4]

Housing Search (May 2026)

In May 2026, Wilmake began actively searching for housing via WoningNet Groningen (groningenhuurt.mijndak.nl) — the social housing platform for the Groningen region. On May 20, he logged in, browsed available listings, and reviewed his household profile.[7] [8]

On May 29, the housing search expanded geographically: Jan searched Funda (funda.nl) for rental listings in Purmerend — a town in North Holland — filtering for rentals ≤€1,500/month. This shift from Groningen-only social housing to a broader rental market reflects parallel Amsterdam relocation planning.[9]

Wildcamping and Outdoor Interests (May 2026)

On May 25, 2026, Jan began actively planning a wildcamping trip near Groningen, using Claude AI to research bivouac and trekking spots. Destinations researched included German trekking sites in the Eifel/NRW (via onenightwild.com), Rømø island in Denmark, and Danish shelters. He purchased trekking food and a 65L Weikani backpack on bol.com, suggesting the trip was moving forward.[6]

On May 27, Jan consulted Claude about a slow tire leak (~4 minutes) and looked up Wout Bleeker Car Service (autoservicewoutbleeker.nl) — a local Groningen car service — possibly related to the upcoming wildcamping trip.[10]
