Hacker Residency (@HackerResidency) is a developer co-working retreat that took place in Da Nang, Vietnam in November 2025. It was organized by Travis_Fischer (@transitive_bs) and Phuc Tran Minh (@phuctm97), and attended by Jan Wilmake alongside roughly a dozen other builders and engineers.
The residency brought a curated group of developers together to work intensively in a co-located environment for approximately two weeks — shipping projects, giving lightning talks, and collaborating across disciplines. It was sponsored by companies including Stainless, Parallel AI, n8n, and OpenRouter.
The core premise: concentrated time with high-calibre peers accelerates both output and professional relationships in ways that remote-only work cannot replicate.
Jan booked flights to Da Nang in early October 2025, excited to attend alongside @supernovaio.[1] The residency was held at a location called "The Code Hotel" starting around November 2.[2]
Jan arrived and participated in standup presentations and lightning talks. His notes from the event describe a high-energy atmosphere: he brought Parallel AI context as his professional angle, explored MCP integrations with attendees, and made connections with developers including:
Jan articulated his collaboration potential as: Cloudflare + task automation expertise, with interest in a three-way collaboration structure involving Artem Murzin (Artem_Murzin) on context management and Andrew (@EastlondonDev) on MCP/distributed systems.[3]
The residency coincided with the onset of Jan's November_2025_Episode — a psychosis episode that required hospitalisation. After arriving and working for approximately one week, Jan was hospitalised first at a local Da Nang facility, then transferred to L'Hôpital Français de Hanoi (HFH), before flying home to Groningen via Frankfurt.[2]

Despite the episode, Jan later described the people he encountered during the residency in strongly positive terms: "I've never been around such an incredibly talented group of people. Shipping with such urgency and passion, all with the best possible vibes."[4]
In an ironic coincidence, uithub went viral during the period Jan was hospitalised and unable to respond to the surge. This is documented in uithub_Viral_Events and November_2025_Episode.
A second Hacker Residency in Da Nang was announced for May 1, 2026. On April 24, 2026, Jan liked a tweet from Tibo Maker (@tibo_maker): "I am joining the Hacker Residency in Da Nang starting May 1st — goal: structure my portfolio to eventually reach $50m ARR (x4 from today)."[5]
Jan did not announce plans to attend the 2026 edition. Given his November 2025 experience (hospitalisation during the previous Da Nang residency), the decision not to attend may reflect both practical and health considerations.
On April 25, 2026, Jan spent ~1.5 minutes reading a tweet from Thomas Sanlis (@T_Zahil): "As a reminder, we do have an entrepreneur residency in France. It's called the Uneed Residency, and the first edition will take place in Nantes, from May 26 to June 2nd. We have 13 residents..." This represents the broader trend of developer co-living/co-working residencies proliferating in 2026, building on the model established by the Da Nang Hacker Residency.[6]
